The aim of the course
is to familiarize students with the political, theoretical and normative
aspects of governance in the EU. This is an advanced course which requires
basic knowledge of institutions and decision making in the EU. In this course,
we will introduce the EU as a sui generis entity and discuss the theoretical
and normative models that try to capture the unique character of the EU. The
focus of the course will be on the political and normative aspects of EU
governance. We will discuss the legitimacy of the EU and the contentious issue
of the democratic deficit of the EU.
