The course is designed to provide students with an introduction to political science as a discipline. It explores the scope of political science as a field of inquiry as well as the qualitative and quantitative methods of research used by political scientists. The central part of the course focuses on the fundamental concepts of political science and examines the nature of modern state, the main differences between democratic and non-democratic regimes and how political institutions (parliaments and governments) work within different regime types.
