This is an advanced course which requires basic knowledge of EU institutions EU. We will start with brief summary of EU institutions and their position within the decision-making system. Emphasis will be put on the four key EU institutions: the European Commission, the European Council, the EU Council and the European Parliament. We will discuss the position of individual EU institutions in the institutional framework of the EU and their interactions.

Our main focus lies in the decision-making processes and the role of EU (and national) institutions within these processes. Students will learn how strategic decisions are made: about the content of the founding treaties, about admission of new members or withdrawal of existing ones. Attention will be paid to the day-to-day decision on the form of EU legislative process. We will also discuss how the EU adopts its budget and enforces its rules through executive and judicial decisions.
